Egr. Segretario Generale,

La preghiamo di ascoltare la nostra voce collettiva in tema di diritti umani, sanità e istruzione. Noi sottoscritti, solo pochi degli oltre 100 milioni stimati di persone che vivono, lavorano, hanno cura di bambini in tutto il mondo, convivendo con questa malattia trascurata, la vitiligine.

Contribuiamo ad ogni singola industria e cultura nel mondo. Ci sono i ricchi e ci sono i poveri. Siamo il volto di tutta la tutta la comunità delle malattie trascurate. Ci trovate nelle scuole, negli ospedali, sugli schermi televisivi e nei film, nelle arene dello sport, nelle chiese, mentre molti se ne sono andati in ritiro e in isolamento volontario dalla società.

Anche se la vitiligine giorno dopo giorno ha distrutto le vite di milioni di persone, quanto a storia documentata, è prevalentemente in via di crescita, e non esiste una cura in vista. Ma poche malattie possono dar luogo a più paura e disgusto della vitiligine, specialmente in persone di pelle scura, in cui può essere sorprendentemente prominente. E poiché non è contagiosa o pericolosa per la vita, spesso non riceviamo alcun sostegno da parte dei nostri sistemi sanitari nazionali.

Così, sono a sostenere l'iniziativa del 25 Giugno e rispettosamente richiedo alle Nazioni Unite di:

1. Proseguire urgente gli sforzi multilaterali nel campo della sanità e dell'istruzione verso la vitiligine, e di

2. Designare la giornata del 25 Giugno come la Giornata Mondiale della Vitiligine.

Signor Segretario Generale, La preghiamo di sentire la nostra voce. Sappiamo che è possibile incoraggiare gli Stati membri a rispettare i nostri diritti. La preghiamo di perseguire politiche di sostegno della collaborazione verso questa malattia dimenticata, la vitiligine, in particolare. Ciò è essenziale per i diritti umani e della dignità personale di milioni di donne, uomini e bambini, su questa Terra.

Why Is It Important

There are a lot of people who don't want you to stand up for your rights and demand a cure. They say vitiligo is not life threatening and not contagious, and you must embrace a life of a pariah, hiding yourself from sunlight and from the society.

Vitiligo is an under-researched disease resulting in milky white skin patches on the skin. The breadth and complexity of the disease require international collaboration in therapy development. The severity of the disease calls for national healthcare support.

So, speak up for your condition and your rights. Sign the letter to tell the UN Secretary-General that you want recognition and support. It would be appreciated if you could give every member of your family or group an opportunity for signing.
