Carta de Petição
Caro Secretário Geral,
Ouça-nos enquanto nós falamos em uma só voz sobre direitos humanos, cuidados em saúde e educação. Nós, que colaboramos com este abaixo-assinado, somos poucos dos estimados 100 milhões de pessoas vivendo, trabalhando e cuidando de crianças ao redor do mundo com esta doença neglicenciada: o vitiligo.
Nós contribuímos com cada indústria e cultura do mundo. Nós somos os ricos e os pobres. Nós somos o rosto de toda a comunidade desta doença negligenciada. Você nos encontra em escolas, hospitais, nas telas da televisão e cinemas, arenas esportivas e igrejas, enquanto muitos optaram por reclusão e isolamento voluntário da sociedade.
Apesar de o vitiligo ter destruído diariamente a vida de milhões de indivíduos desde o início dos tempos, sobretudo no mundo em desenvolvimento, ainda não há cura em vista. Poucas doenças causam mais medo e relutância que o vitiligo. Uma vez que este não é contagioso e nem causa ameaça à vida, nós comumente não recebemos qualquer suporte do nosso sistema de saúde.
Sendo assim, eu apoio a iniciativo 25Junho e respeitosamente peço às Nações Unidas que:
1. Urgentemente busque esforços multilaterais relacionados ao vitiligo, em saúde e educação, e que
2. Defina 25 de Junho como Dia Mundial do Vitiligo.
Sr. Secretário Geral, por favor ouça nossa voz. Nós sabemos que o senhor pode encorajar os Estados Membros a respeitar nossos direitos. Favor buscar políticas de suporte para doenças negligenciadas, sobretudo o vitiligo. Isto é crucial para os direitos humanos e dignidade de milhões de mulheres, homens e crianças neste planeta.

Why Is It Important
There are a lot of people who don't want you to stand up for your rights and demand a cure. They say vitiligo is not life threatening and not contagious, and you must embrace a life of a pariah, hiding yourself from sunlight and from the society.
Vitiligo is an under-researched disease resulting in milky white skin patches on the skin. The breadth and complexity of the disease require international collaboration in therapy development. The severity of the disease calls for national healthcare support.
So, speak up for your condition and your rights. Sign the letter to tell the UN Secretary-General that you want recognition and support. It would be appreciated if you could give every member of your family or group an opportunity for signing.
